How the Scan to BIM process works

Modeling from the point cloud

Our team models directly inside Revit or Archicad using the point cloud and panoramic images. We do not guess. Every wall, slab, duct and pipe is traced from measured data.

Delivery and support

You receive the native model file, linked point clouds if requested and simple instructions for opening and using the model. We remain available for questions and small adjustments as your design team begins work.

Scope and inputs

We confirm what you want modeled, which disciplines matter, the LOD you need and the software version you use. If Plansrow scanned the project we already have your point cloud. If you bring your own scans we review sample files to confirm quality and coverage.

Quality review

We run visual checks, section cuts and measurement spot checks against the cloud. If needed we clarify any ambiguous areas with you before final delivery.

What is Scan to BIM

Scan to BIM is the process of turning three dimensional laser scan data into a BIM model that accurately reflects existing conditions. It gives designers and builders a smart model instead of only drawings.

How accurate are the models

When the scan data is high quality and the scope is well defined, Scan to BIM models can reach millimeter level accuracy where needed. In most renovation projects we target practical tolerances that give designers confidence without unnecessary over modeling.

Do you need to perform the scanning

We prefer to scan because it gives us control over data quality, but we also work from client provided point clouds when they meet our standards. We review a sample before finalizing scope and pricing.

What software do you support

Most clients request Revit models. We can also support Archicad and export data for use with Navisworks and many common viewers. If you work in another platform let us know and we will confirm compatibility.

How much does Scan to BIM cost

Cost depends on three main factors: building size, complexity and the level of detail you need. Modeling only major elements at LOD 200 or 300 costs less than detailed LOD 350 or 400 work in congested areas. Share your plans or point cloud and we will provide a clear written quote.

Do you work outside of California
